Last December, Acorn Stairlifts partnered with George to the Rescue to create incredible new living spaces for Mia Finnegan and her family. George to the Rescue is a weekly national home improvement show renovating homes of those who genuinely need a hand in the face of adversity. The show often reaches out to families with special needs children to spruce up their homes and install solutions when necessary. The host George Oliphant visits the family with a team of contractors and designers along with companies who are willing to help. This is the second time that Acorn extended its resources and expertise to aid the chosen family with their top of the line solution.

The Finnegan couple reached out to the show to ask if they can make a freshly styled and fully equipped home for the children specially for little Mia who is struggling with Cerebral Palsy. Liz Finnegan, the stay-at-home Mom of Mia, wrote to the show organizers saying that she hopes to surprise her children and husband. Bob Finnegan, Mia’s fire fighter Dad sent a second “secret” video describing the emotional difficulty Liz is going through because of their situation.

The family’s home transformation was very meaningful as it has helped Mia manage mobility struggle caused by her condition. The stairlifts increased Mia’s accessibility and comfort enabling her to join her family in any area of their home. The Acorn crew installed a stairlift from the driveway into the basement, another on the way up from basement to main floor and finally from the main floor to the top floor where Mia’s bedroom is. Aside from installing the stairlifts, they had also redesigned Mia’s bedroom and basement to meet her changing and growing needs as she ages. The basement is now a suitable place where she and her two brothers can play.

Watch how Acorn Stairlifts worked with George to the Rescue to give Mia a life-changing solution. The episode with the Fennigan family story is set to air on April 1 on NBC.
