Back in 2003, the American Heart Association and National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute took action against heart disease which is the leading cause of death for women. Red was the color they have chosen to celebrate the campaign because of its power to call attention and boost confidence. The advocacy calls for individuals and groups to take steps in bringing the disease to national attention and lead efforts to slow down if not stop the effects that the disease is causing. Women were asked to take action to know their cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index to curb the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Many people believe that heart disease is common only in men, but did you know that heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year? That’s approximately one woman every 80 seconds, making it the #1 cause of death in women.
Today, the Acorn family wears red to show support for those women who have heart-related disease. Acorn Stairlifts is a solution that helps both men and women who suffer from heart-related complications to regain their freedom. We do so, not only through our product, but by also actively participating in this awareness campaign.
