Acorn Stairlifts is in the business of helping people by providing a safe and comfortable solution for those who struggle on the stairs. In addition, we reach out to organizations that help fight diseases that cause mobility concerns such as ALS. For years, we at Acorn Stairlifts have championed defeating ALS through Walks and the Ice Bucket Challenge.

Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis or ALS is a disease that affects the function of nerves and muscles. This happens because of the progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord which cause People with ALS (PALS) lose their ability to control movement.

The continuous degeneration of nerve cells leads to total paralysis and even death within just 2 to 5 years of being diagnosed. Unfortunately, like Cancer, there is still no cure for ALS. PALS resorts to the only one drug approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that helps prevent ALS in a limited capacity.

Acorn Stairlifts follows the lead of the ALS Association in defeating the disease that affects most people in advanced age. Our team is committed to raise funds to support people in our community with ALS and spread awareness of the urgency to find treatment and a cure. Acorn employees donated and will walk with their loved ones at Lake Eola on Saturday, March 18, 2017.

The ALS Association is currently the only national non-profit fighting to defeat ALS. They make progress in global research, provide assistance for PALS, coordinate multidisciplinary care and foster partnership with the government.
