Installations involving a doorway at head of stairs
It is quite common to encounter an installation scenario, with a door at the top of the staircase (frequently garage or basement steps, or from ground floor to upper level).
In these cases, the stairlift rail can be ‘jacked-up’ slightly, at the top of the staircase (effectively lifting the rail from the stair nosing of the top stair tread. This is achieved by ‘doubling-up’ the clamps of the uppermost rail bracket, as shown in fig.1

This has the effect of shortening the rail length, allowing the carriage and seat unit to clear the door, when parked at the head of the rail (fig. 2).

In use, the door can be opened by the user when the stairlift reaches the top of its travel. The seat is then swivelled through 90 degrees and the user can then safely step on to the upper landing (fig.3)
