How much does an Acorn Stairlift cost?

The price of a stairlift depends on a number of different things. Our stairlifts are not just custom-made for your staircase. The price is affected by many different aspects which our trained surveyors assess before leaving you with an accurate written quotation. This includes:

  • Your own personal requirements

  • Grants and assistance

  • The design of your staircase

  • What elements surround your staircase

Q.

What happens if there is a power outage, will I be stranded?

An Acorn Stairlift is battery powered and will continue to work even if you have a power cut. Acorn pioneered the use of DC (battery) power in stairlifts.

When the Acorn 130 stairlift was chosen due to the inherent advantages of safety and the ability to operate normally during a power failure. All of Acorn's stairlift competitors have followed this lead and now offer a battery powered product. Such are the advantages of this technology!

What is the maximum weight that an Acorn Stairlift will carry?

The Acorn 130 Straight stairlift has a maximum user weight of 300lbs.

The Acorn 180 Curved stairlift has a maximum user weight of 264lbs.

Acorn can also supply an enchanced version of its straight 130 stairlift with an increased upper weight limit, capable of carrying up to 350lbs. Some minor modifications make this model best suited to larger users.

What kind of Annual Service Agreement does Acorn offer?

Your Acorn Stairlift comes with a fully comprehensive 12-month Annual Service Agreement. If any component should fail due to faulty manufacture during the first year of ownership, Acorn will send round one of our fully trained service technicians to get your stairlift back to full working order free of charge.

After that, we have several different Annual Service Agreement options available to suit a range of budgets.

Remember that an Acorn stairlift is a very, very reliable piece of equipment. Acorn stairlifts are manufactured to the world's highest standards and exceed the requirements of most of them, ensuring safety, reliability and engineering excellence.

If I arrange for a survey, will I get the hard sell?

Absolutely not! Our survey is completely free and without any obligation to buy anything. An Acorn surveyor will only come round if you specifically request it, allowing you to tell them about your individual requirements in the comfort of your home.

A visit from one of our expertly trained surveyors will allow you to see what sets Acorn Stairlifts apart from any other stairlift company.

After assessing your needs our surveyor will instantly be able to give you the peace of mind of knowing exactly how affordable an Acorn Stairlift can be.

Our surveyor can then accurately measure your stairs and assess your specific needs. Once your staircase has been surveyed, our surveyor will sit down with you and guide you through the different types of stairlift Acorn can provide. You will be given your own free, fixed written quotation, and you are under no obligation to purchase - it is then entirely your decision - in your own time - whether to buy or not.

Q.

How long does it take to install an Acorn Stairlift?

If your Acorn Stairlift has been manufactured to the exact dimensions of your home, it can take less than an hour! A curved stairlift may take longer to install, but any disruption is kept to an absolute minimum.



Before an Acorn Installer leaves your home, they will make sure that the stairlift is tested thoroughly, and demonstrate all the features - making sure you are perfectly happy and know how to use it. Of course, we’ll leave everything as clean and tidy as you had it before.

Q.

I have problems bending my knees, can I use an Acorn Stairlift?

Shouldn't be a problem! We have a option called the Acorn Sit/Stand Stairlift. It is particularly useful for those who have trouble bending their knees due to limited knee articulation and for installations where the stairway is unusually narrow.

I have a disability. Will an Acorn Stairlift be suitable for me?

Q.

Will I need to redecorate after my Acorn Stairlift is installed?

The Acorn Stairlift is fitted to your staircase, not the wall, so there's a minimum of disruption to your home, and no unsightly repairs to be made.

Our expert installers will install, test and demonstrate your stairlift, and leave your home just as tidy as they found it.

Q.

My staircase is quite narrow. Will an Acorn Stairlift fit?

Staircases come in many varied sizes and shapes, with 'fans' of steps at the top or bottom, sub-landings, etc. It's often possible to fit a transfer platform, construct 'infill boxes' or use two straight stairlifts. Any one of these options could be cheaper than a curved stairlift, and your experienced Acorn Surveyor will be able to advise you on the best option.

Q.

Does Medicare cover any of the costs for buying a stairlift?

Medicare does not presently cover stairlift products. Unfortunately, they do not consider stairlifts a “medical necessity”. Until this changes, all we can do is try to point the financially needy in the right direction. Hopefully the following information will assist you.

There are many organizations that provide financial assistance to people in need of medical devices not covered by Medicare or insurance.
